Applicants will see from the criteria and objectives of the Foundation that the Trustees are looking to support those who are aware of the mission of the Church of England and supportive of its aims. The Trustees have highlighted the 5 Marks of Mission and applicants should detail where their studies align with these objectives and include this in their submission.

The Trustees are interested to hear the impact applicants see their studies/research having in the future. World changers can be people of immense influence and power but equally can be those day in day out working in their chosen community or job, loving and supporting those in need and being a voice of hope in all situations.

No, however individual grants are awarded for work which will advance education in accordance with the principles and practice of the Church of England, or of a church in communion with it. However, applications are not excluded from individuals of other faiths or of none.

All study must be completed in the United Kingdom. Oversees support can be given if, as part of a course, or research project, the applicant needs to spend time abroad to further their studies – this could be a term at an institution in partnership with the one they are attending in the UK. Yes but they must be studying at a UK institution. The Trustees are aware of the high costs for students from abroad studying in the UK and any contribution from the Foundation of St Matthias will not meet the full costs. Scholarships are up to £12,500 a year f/t and pro-rata p/t and personal grants are usually between £500 & £3,000. Oversees students are encouraged to look at all avenues for funding and detail in their application the steps they are taking to enable them to fulfil their plans. Students will only be able to receive funding if they have a UK bank account.

The Foundation offers a Organisation Grant for institutions wishing to apply for funding. Please see details on the website and please ensure that any applications meet the criteria and objectives of the Foundation. The amounts awarded are usually between £3,000 to £10,000.
